THE VINEGAR WAY TO KEEP TILES IN SHOWROOM CONDITION...
When it comes to household cleaning, there are a plethora of products that claim to clean ‘this area’ or ‘that surface’ better, faster – and even healthier.
The truth of the matter is that much of the vernacular is simply just marketing parlance and persuasion, with little to no benefit over traditional methods used by our parents and grandparents.
If you look under most modern kitchen, laundry and bathroom basins you will discover an abundance of cleaning products; products that take up space and increasingly add up in costs.
Furthermore, many of these products can actually introduce unnecessary chemicals into the home – and the environment at large; another increasingly real cost.
At Tile Boutique, we know tiles.
We are not going to comment on how best to clean every surface in the home or workplace...but we will give you a simple, cost-effective solution to keep your porcelain and ceramic tiles in showroom condition.
Vinegar.
Simple, cheap, common, environmentally friendly white vinegar.
Throughout the ages, vinegar has been used as a tried-and-true cleaning solution.
It’s acidic composition acts to naturally dissolve mineral deposits, grime, dirt and soap scum and with inherent antimicrobial properties it actually works to disinfect a surface to boot!
Cleaning tiles with vinegar is simple.
Generally speaking, a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water is perfect for most surfaces, mixed into a bucket or spray bottle.
Apply the solution to the surface, allow it to sit for five to ten minutes, give it a gentle scrub with a sponge or soft bristled brush and rinse with clean water.
Simple.
Green.
Easy.
As mentioned, vinegar is an acid - which means that it can corrode certain surfaces, including some natural and unglazed tile styles.
It can also weaken grouting, especially if it is in poor condition or already damaged.
With this in mind, it is a good idea to test on a small area before the first clean.
And if in doubt, please do seek the advice of a trusted tile professional at your local Tile Boutique showroom.
That said, vinegar is generally safe for most tile surfaces in a diluted state.
It is natural, nontoxic and eco- friendly, making it the ultimate multipurpose cleaner.
Coupled with its accessibility – and affordability – white vinegar and water is THE solution!
